Jennifer Linzmeyer, DO ’97

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: JENNIFER LINZMEYER, DO ’97

Dr. Linzmeyer with her parents at graduationDr. David “Pete” Frelinger spent his lifetime serving others, from his free clinics in Los Angeles, Calif. and Tijuana, Mexico to his work with Native Americans on various reservations. A close friend to WesternU's Founding President Philip Pumerantz, PhD, Dr. Frelinger received a Founders Award from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 1978 for his support of the new college; and later, he sent two of his five children to COMP to become doctors.

Following Dr. Frelinger’s death in 2009, his daughter, Jennifer Linzmeyer, DO ’97, now a pediatrician with Kaiser Permanente in Orange County, honored her father by establishing a scholarship endowment in his name. Dr. Linzmeyer is Jennifer Linzmeyerhappy to have continued the family tradition of giving back by creating a legacy to make her father proud, and she continues to give back, having most recently returned to campus as an alumni volunteer to facilitate exams for current COMP students.

Since 2014, the Dr. Pete Frelinger Family Scholarship has been presented annually to a second- or third-year COMP student who demonstrates a commitment of service to underserved communities, a passion for volunteerism, and academic success. Dr. Linzmeyer, or her brother, Richard Frelinger, DO ’89, make an effort to return to campus each spring to share their father’s story and personally present the award to the recipient.
