Current podiatric clinical skills education consists of an uncertain volume of high-stakes care in which students and residents learn their skills on actual patients. For example, a podiatry student will perform their first injection on a patient, creating a stressful environment for both the student and the patient. A better method exists to foster our students and residents toward mastery: deliberate practice. In this method a learner develops skills that others have mastered while focusing on well-defined specific goals. A Clinical Simulation Laboratory will allow students the opportunity to certify their skills before moving on to more complex situations.
